If, no matter what you do, your kitchen still smells the morning after you’ve cooked a wonderful meal, you need these tips on how to prevent kitchen cooking smells!
Ventilation
Cooking smells are pleasant while you’re making dinner, but the appeal soon wears off when your clothes and soft furnishings start to smell.
Ventilation is the best way to ensure cooking smells don’t stick around, so open your kitchen window while doing things like steaming vegetables – this will help reduce condensation too. Using your extractor fan can also stop smells lingering about long after you’ve been cooking.
Extractor fan maintenance
As is the nature of extractor fans, they often get greasy and dirty. Giving your extractor fan some TLC every once in a while will keep it functioning effectively and avoid a build-up of grease and grime that can lead to nasty smells.
When cleaning it, ensure it is powered off and turned off at the mains and clean all surfaces with warm soapy water and a sponge, not forgetting to change filters.
Oven cleaning
Likewise, cleaning your oven regularly can reduce unwanted smells. Residual food often gets splashed on the oven door or walls which is then reheated up each time you turn the oven on. Clean your oven with gloves on using a specialist home cleaner or call your local oven cleaner who will leave your oven sparkling clean.

Air quality corrections
Ever heard of an air purifier? This amazing gadget will remove airborne pollutants and odours as well as deodorise the air, meaning that it cleans the air and leaves a pleasant scent. Furthermore, using candles, wax melts or diffusers can stop your kitchen smelling, but note that these will only cover up smells rather than eliminate them. It is not recommended that you use strongly fragranced candles or the like in your kitchen whilst cooking as these could contaminate your food and affect the taste.
