“I don’t know what to do with my life”

How many times, talking to yourself, have you repeated to yourself: “ I don’t know what to do in life ”? Well, embarking on a path to knowing yourself deeply, understand your aspirations and enhance talent is not at all simple, much less immediate.

The doubt of not knowing what to do “when you grow up ” can actually come at any time: there may be events, in the course of life, that place you in front of difficult choices that make you see the future under an increasingly blurred lens.

In an article of mine some time ago, I have already explained to you why feeling stuck is torture and how to get out of this state of restraint. In this guide, however, I want to give you some advice to understand what work to do and what path to take in your life, especially when everything seems to be unclear.

Let’s get started right away.

“Can’t find work”? Some tips to find your way now

Has the ” I don’t know what to do with my life ” become a constant question? Whether you are a young graduate student, a professional, or a retiree, this question could strike you at any time when something takes you away from your goals. Here are some tips to find your way.

Find the strength to actI don't know what to do with my life

When we feel stuck, we are often prisoners of our own limiting minds and beliefs. What does it mean? There are times when we are less likely to embrace change, wake up our dormant minds, and make a decision that we feel is truly right for us.

In some moments, it also happened to me to live this impasse: the truth is that questions about life are not always well packaged and there are no hard and fast rules for everyone to follow. What is certain, however, is that it is often we ourselves who stand in the way. To repeat that something is not for us.

Understanding what you want to do in life is challenging and this “task” risks making you feel overwhelmed. When our brain feels that the choice is too demanding, it tries to protect us from risk by immobilizing us. Paradoxically we become paralyzed rather than freed from the power of choice.

This triggers an increasingly suffocating vicious circle, which makes you dissatisfied with your life. How to get out of it? By regaining your self-confidence, by ceasing to have a negative and closed attitude towards change.

WHAT TO DO? Listen (really) to yourself. Ask yourself who you are and what you would like to become, freeing yourself from social conventions and what you have been asked to do. Your conscious mind would like practical and safe solutions, but there are no shortcuts: face yourself and have the strength to make a decision. Turn your “I don’t know what to do in life” into “I act to find direction”

Small steps (but without fear)

If, in front of the mirror, you have repeated more than once “I don’t know what to do”, the time has come to act, but also to set goals.

To be valid, your goals must be simple, realistic, measurable, and limited in time. One of the mistakes we make most often when we want to change is setting unreasonable goals, far from our reach. Failure to achieve those goals risks not motivating us and leading us towards renunciation.

Grab a piece of paper and write down your short and long-term goals. Ambitious goals can be divided into small goals to be achieved in small steps. Harmful habits can be changed one step at a time.

WHAT TO DO? Commit to achieving one goal per month, working on it consistently. I know it’s hard to think about goals when you’re very confused. ut really try to listen to your needs and start working actively. To unlock, you have to act but in small steps: in this way, your goals will seem easier to achieve.

Restart from your valuesI don't know what to do with my life

Many times the reason for the stagnation is to be found precisely in the lack of awareness of your values. And needs and what has satisfied you previously, does not seem to do so now.

When your life is out of alignment with your values, you feel miserable. The same happens when your needs are not met. Being aware of your needs makes it easier for you to make decisions.

WHAT TO DO? Restart from your values. Have you ever wondered who you really are and what you believe in? What are the beliefs that guide your life? What are the values that you could never give up because they are part of you?
